We have moved plants onto Ignition from Wonderware, FactoryTalk and ICONICS. We upgrade Ignition 7.9 and 8.1 systems to 8.3, and rebuild Vision screens in Perspective. Every migration starts on a copy of your system, never on your production gateway.
We have moved plants onto Ignition from all three platforms. The existing screens are the specification, and much of how they behave is not written down. We work alongside the person at your plant who knows that behavior day to day, and the new system handles every one of those cases before cutover.
We upgrade 7.9 to 8.1 and 8.1 to 8.3. We build a test gateway from your backup, find and fix what breaks there, and plan the cutover around your production schedule. On one project the upgrade also moved the plant's database from MySQL to SQL Server.
We rebuild Vision windows as Perspective views that run in a browser and on a phone, one area at a time. Our Vision conversions include parts and BOM management, quality test tools and operator screens.
The order matters more than the speed. Most migration failures trace back to a cutover made before testing on the copy was complete.
No. Ignition 8.3 cannot restore a 7.9 backup, so a 7.9 system must be upgraded to 8.1 first and then to 8.3. We have run that exact sequence, 7.9 to 8.1 to 8.3, and we test each step on a copy of your system before your production gateway is touched.
Inductive Automation supports each long-term support version (7.9, 8.1, 8.3) for five years from its release or two years past the next one, whichever is longer. With 8.3 released, 8.1 is in its final support period, and 7.9 is already past the end of support. If you are on either version, now is the time to plan the move.
No. Vision and Perspective run side by side on the same gateway, so we typically convert one area at a time. Operators keep using the Vision screens they know until the Perspective version of that area is ready and tested.
It depends on the number of projects, modules and connections, and the amount of custom scripting in them. Send us a backup for a free Ignition MRI, and we will have enough detail to give you a reliable estimate.
Yes. We have moved plants to Ignition from Wonderware, FactoryTalk and ICONICS. We work alongside the person at your plant who knows how the current screens behave, because that knowledge is usually not written down, and we confirm the Ignition system covers it before cutover.
